Artistic Easter Stamps Feature Renaissance Masters and Byzantine Icons Across Europe

Several European postal administrations have issued artistically designed Easter stamps for 2026. Croatia released 30,000 stamps on March 30 featuring an 18th-century Crucifixion painting from the Franciscan convent in Čakovcu. Poland's priority stamp depicts a Resurrection detail by Guido Reni from Ravenna Cathedral's Santissimo Sacramento chapel, commissioned by Archbishop Pietro Aldobrandini in 1612 and completed in 1621 with assistants Francesco Gessi, Giovanni Giacomo Sementi, and Bartolomeo Marescotti. Romania commemorates the 300th anniversary of Bucharest's Kretzulescu Church with stamps showing Crucifixion and Resurrection icons accompanied by Gospel verses. Serbia's stamps derive from mosaics in Belgrade's Saint Sava Cathedral. Slovakia features Peter Michael Bohúň's Ascension of Christ from Batoce's evangelical church. The Vatican's €1.15 stamp presents Spanish painter Raul Berzosa's work inspired by Byzantine icons, continuing his 2018 Easter stamp contribution and reflecting Pope Francis's emphasis on family participation in Easter mystery.
