Authors Anne Lamott and Neal Allen have co-authored 'Good Writing: 36 Ways to Improve Your Sentences,' a new instructional book focused on sentence-level craft. Lamott, known for her influential 1994 writing manual 'Bird by Bird,' partnered with her husband Allen, who conceived the project as a practical follow-up addressing revision techniques. The couple met in 2016 through a dating website and married after a brief courtship. Their collaborative process involved Allen outlining specific rules for improving prose, with Lamott providing complementary commentary. The book was published by Avery in 2026, spans 208 pages, and retails for $27. The authors will appear together at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books in April 2026 to discuss the work.
