Annalinda Maso's 'Le Vie dell'Acqua' Revives Historic Washhouse in Castelnuovo di Porto

The project 'Le Vie dell'Acqua,' led by curator Giulia Marcellini and created by Annalinda Maso, has breathed new life into La Femminella, a historic washhouse in Castelnuovo di Porto, Italy, which had been closed for more than ten years. Set to open on March 21, 2026, during the Giornate Fai di Primavera, the exhibition showcased installations and performances that reimagined local folklore, including tales of a female spirit haunting the wash basins. Born in Rome in 1998, Maso symbolically linked the washhouse to the Rocca Colonna using a red thread. Video-sonic pieces by Lorenzo Giovannola were also exhibited at Rocca Colonna, addressing themes of sacredness and modern life with water. The project, which previously appeared at Castelnuovo Fotografia (2024), Rocca di Albornoz (2025), and Circuiti Dinamici (2025), highlights community engagement and the rediscovery of history through contemporary art.
