Ankhekhonsu Mummy and Sarcophagus at Bergamo Archaeological Museum

Situated in Città Alta, the Archaeological Museum of Bergamo features the mummy and sarcophagus of Ankhekhonsu, an Amun priest from the Third Intermediate Period (circa 969–900 BC). This collection was presented in June 1885 by Giovanni Venanzi, the Italian Consul in Alexandria, and verified by Egyptologist Ernesto Schiaparelli. The yellow sarcophagus from Luxor was delivered by the steamer Asia. The mummy, which has a radiocarbon dating of 1107–912 BC, has recently been restored with minimal intervention. Additionally, the museum showcases shabtis, amulets, and a faience necklace. Some smaller artifacts have partial provenance from donors such as General Jlembiski and Temistocle Solera. In 2002, three pieces were moved from Bergamo's Natural Science Museum, highlighting 19th-century antiquities collecting.
