AMEC unveils six chip-making machines in one day, advancing China's semiconductor self-sufficiency

ai-technology · 2026-05-18

At an industry conference in Wuxi on Tuesday, Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. (AMEC) from China introduced six new chip manufacturing machines, marking its evolution from a specialist in etching to a full-fledged semiconductor equipment provider. The new offerings consist of etching tools, deposition systems, and equipment for silicon-carbide power chips, with four of the products being deposition tools. This initiative is part of AMEC's push to enhance its R&D efforts, shortening product development timelines from three to five years to two years or less. In the first half of the year, the company allocated 2.04 billion yuan (US$303.5 million) to R&D, a 36.9% increase, which constitutes 30.5% of its revenue. AMEC is currently developing over 20 machines and intends to compete with leading US and Japanese firms.
