AMACI Study Day Explores Ancient-Contemporary Dialogues with Viliani, Macel, and Al Kalak

The sixth AMACI study day, titled 'Sincronie contemporanee. Il dialogo tra passato e presente nei musei di oggi,' was organized by Marcella Beccaria, Chiara Gatti, and Lorenzo Respi, focusing on the intersection of ancient and modern art in museums. Andrea Viliani from Italy's Ministry of Culture discussed the 2020 Pompeii Commitment project alongside Massimo Osanna, stressing the importance of methodological frameworks. He also presented the MUCIV-Museo delle Civiltà's Museo delle Opacità initiative (2023-2025), which reexamines Italy's colonial past through a postcolonial lens. Christine Macel reviewed the Centre Pompidou's approach to postcolonial themes, referencing exhibitions such as Magiciens de la Terre (1989) and Modernités Plurielles (2013). Matteo Al Kalak cautioned against the risk of prioritizing entertainment in digital archives. Notable participants included artists Simone Fattal, Lara Favaretto, and Anri Sala.
