Académie française unveils new words for 10th dictionary edition

The Académie française has revealed the first words of the tenth edition of its dictionary, including 350 new entries such as "abandonnique" and "altermondialiste." The complete edition is expected by 2050. Since 2000, two entities meet every Thursday: the dictionary commission (ten members) reviews texts in the morning for three hours, followed by a second reading before the full assembly for 90 minutes. Each word is analyzed for exactness, elegance, and clarity, with examples ensuring proper grammatical and syntactic usage. The ninth edition added etymological notes. The process reflects the institution's commitment to maintaining the correct use of French, a tradition dating back to the first edition in 1694.
