Abbasid gold hoard unearthed at Saudi archaeological site

Approximately 100 gold coins from the Abbasid period have been discovered at the archaeological site of Dariyah in the Al-Qassim region of Saudi Arabia. The find was reported by LeJournaldesArts.fr on June 8, 2026. The hoard consists of gold pieces dating to the Abbasid Caliphate, which ruled from the 8th to the 13th centuries. Dariyah is a historic town and UNESCO World Heritage site known for its mud-brick architecture and role as the first capital of the Saudi dynasty. The discovery adds to the understanding of trade and economic networks in the Islamic Golden Age.
