A Rabbit's Foot Magazine Explores California's Creative Innovators in Latest Issue

The fourteenth edition of A Rabbit's Foot, a London-based film culture publication, focuses on California's inventive contributors to visual culture. Editor Charles Finch describes this release as highlighting the state's lesser-known urban and soulful aspects. Creative director Fatima Khan, who leads the London design studio Broad Peak Studio, emphasizes the interconnected nature of cinema, graphic design, photography, and writing as forms of world-building. The magazine is produced with a local approach, utilizing East London's Park Printers and local film labs, while drawing inspiration from vintage publications like The Face, Nova, and Film Culture. Previous collaborations include a Noir issue with Nadia Lee Cohen and a cover featuring Sean Baker and Mikey Madison. Khan's design philosophy, shaped by her tenure at Pentagram under John Rushworth, prioritizes conceptual clarity in typography and layout. The California issue features diverse voices such as Jeff Bridges, Boots Riley, Charles Burnett, Ottessa Moshfegh, and Alana Haim, blending original and archival materials. The core team of six maintains a small, iterative creative process. For this issue, Khan adopted an 'emotional realism' aesthetic in black-and-white photography, styled by Alexander Roth with vintage set designs by Alice Jacobs. The magazine's approach avoids internet sourcing in favor of printed references for depth and tactility.
