1960 Cuban Revolution Trading Cards Sponsored by Food Brand

publication · 2026-03-19

In 1960, the Cuban canned food company Felices produced a series of trading cards titled 'Album de la Revolucion Cubana' that documented Fidel Castro's seven-year guerrilla war against the Batista government. The cards presented historical narratives of the conflict through collectible images. This promotional item emerged as Castro, after gaining power with promises of democratic reforms, implemented radical policies including nationalization of industry, land reforms, and expropriation of American assets. These actions, along with a 1960 trade agreement with the Soviet Union, led to severed U.S. economic ties and diplomatic relations in January 1961.
