1,600 Chilean students get first professional theater experience

cultural-heritage · 2026-07-15

Over 1,600 students from 17 schools of SIP Red de Colegios will attend exclusive performances of the play 'El Eclipse' at the Teatro Nacional Chileno (TNCH) in Santiago during July 2026. The initiative targets 3rd and 5th graders, offering six specially scheduled shows. For many, it is their first visit to a professional theater. The program is part of SIP's arts education plan, linked to its 170th anniversary, and aims to foster observation, reflection, creativity, and empathy. TNCH subdirector Claudio Martínez emphasized the theater's commitment to young audiences and noted the multidisciplinary appeal of theater. The experience will be documented to help develop a future children's theater literacy program by TNCH. SIP Red de Colegios serves over 22,000 students across 12 communes in the Metropolitan Region.
